Unit 3: Preparation of a job interview

Recognizing strengths and enhancing improvement areas

Aim of the activity:

Discuss the results of the test with the students in terms of their strengths and improvement areas

Acquire a more objective description of the skills 

Enable the students to prepare for a job interview

Guide the students to understand their educational/professional objectives.

Help them see the coherence (or its absence) between their soft skills and career goals.

Individual: 30/60 Minutes

Material needed:

Paper, pencils, output SkillsAct self-assessment

Instructions for VET trainers:

  1. Students have already received the SkillsAct Report and SkillsAct Passport
  2. Teachers introduce the purpose of the SkillsAct Self-Assessment Test
  3. Print the questions suggested in the next paragraph
  4. You can ask the following questions, which are strongly related to the SkillsAct Model and at the same time are typical HR interview questions:

You can ask the following questions, which are strongly related to the SkillsAct Model and the typical HR interview questions:

  • Please, tell me about your experience abroad.
  • What did you like the most about it?
  • What did you like least about the experience?
  • Did you face any challenge? What did you do?
  • Please, choose an image, an object or a word that can describe your experience (the teacher can bring back cards with pictures or cut pictures from magazines for them to choose from).
  • Can you give some examples of situations in which you used these soft skills?

Self-assessment

  • Do you think the results of the test match your skills?
  • Where do you see differences in your abilities?
  • (If the student feels that the results of the test are not entirely accurate) Can you give me an example of a situation where you used the skill?

Identifying the strengths of students

  • What have you learned from this experience?
  • What are your strengths in terms of soft skills?
  • Can you give some examples of situations in which you used these soft skills?
  • What do you want to teach your friends about this experience?

Identifying improvement areas

  • What are your improvement areas in term of soft-skills?
  • How can you improve these soft skills?
